This year, I decided to join Lag N Crash CTF 5.0 and challenged myself with the handicap of joining solo against 4-man teams
This was particularly interesting as I had no one else to rely on during the competition and had to expand my scope from just the cybersecurity fields that I was comfortable with to the other ones that I usually had let my teammates do
Although I did not win, I achieved 60th place out of 108 teams with mostly 4 people each from polytechnics and junior colleges around Singapore
The fact that I managed to place that high against competitors who had much more experience and skill in cybersecurity made me feel proud of my achievement
Additionally, I managed to have a meaningful chat with two of the challenge authors which gave me insight into how CTFs were ran behind the scenes and how tough it was to manage
This was a very fun experience and I would definitely compete again next year when Lag N Crash comes back
